Suguru Ito, born in Japan, gave his first concerts aged 11 in the USA, New Zealand and Australia.
From the 1990s based in Switzerland, he has played recitals, chamber music and solo concertos both on the modern piano and on period pianofortes including William Stodart (London 1799), Nannette Streicher née Stein (Vienna 1816), Johann Baptist Streicher (Vienna 1842), Pierre Érard (Paris 1857), Grotrian Steinweg (Braunschweig 1874), and Carl Bechstein (Berlin c.1895), formerly owned by the French composer Henri Sauguet.
He has performed together with Dimitri Ashkenazy, Cecilia Bartoli, François Benda, Margo Cadias, Graziella Contratto, Patrick Demenga, Marek Dumicz, Yoko Fujita, Latica Honda-Rosenberg, Michio Kai, Ivan Monighetti, Emmanuel Pahud, Alfredo Persichilli, Alice Piérot, Hartmut Rohde, Emil Rovner, Kamilla Schatz, Midori Seiler, Kurt Widmer, Helmut Winschermann & the Deutsche Bachsolisten, the Cuarteto Casals, et al.
Occasionally he has also been heard in crossover projects, e.g., with writer Mikhail Shishkin and actor Thomas Douglas.
Diverse engagements and tours have brought him to notable venues including the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Sydney Opera House, Hamilton's Founders Theatre, Salle UNESCO Paris, Beethoven-Haus Bonn, Bach-Archiv Leipzig, SWR Hans Rosbaud Studio in Baden-Baden, Granitz Hunting Castle on the island Ruegen, Filharmonia Warmińsko-Mazurska, Stadtcasino de Bâle, Tonhalle Zürich, Paul Klee Centre in Berne, the Actors' Church - St Paul's Covent Garden, Wall Hall in Hertfordshire, Barcelona's Auditorium, Ginza Oji-Hall and the Odd Fellows Lodge, among others.
Suguru Ito also appeared at international festivals and concert series, such as Lucerne Festival, Temporada de Cambra de Barcelona, Bodenseefestival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Les Heures de Musique de La Chaux-de-Fonds, Concerts for « Embracing the World®︎ », Société Chopin, International Joseph Martin Kraus Society, Recital Cycle @ Chamber Symphony Basel, Festival « Pau Casals » in El Vendrell and Gidon Kremer's Festival les muséiques.

Suguru Ito's other passion from the late 1970s until 2019 was playing the melodica. In 2003 he was invited to the Russian Festival « Pictures from an Exhibition » in Nizhny Novgorod and to the concert cycle « New Horizons Berne » to perform the premiere of his own melodica version of György Ligeti's Musica ricercata, in celebration of composer's 80th birthday.
He studied economics, literature and music. In 1993 he was awarded a soloist diploma at the Basel Academy of Music under Jürg Wyttenbach, a disciple of Yvonne Lefébure.
Highly inspiring encounters with Shinichi Suzuki, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sándor Zöldy (Quatuor Végh), Kurt Widmer or his studies with Haruko Kataoka, Masaru Kawasaki, Andreas Staier, Christopher Schmidt (Gregorian chant at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis) and complementary lectures in cultural philosophy given by Hans Saner have significantly shaped him.

日本大学文理学部除籍、信州大学経済学部中退、およびスコラ・カントルム・バジリエンシス中退を経て、バーゼル音楽院大学院ピアノ科修了。
１９９０年代からスイスを拠点とし、モダンピアノのみならず、数々のオリジナル・ピリオド楽器 〜 ウィリアム・ストダート （１７９９／ロンドン）、ミヒャエル・ローゼンベルガー（１８００／ウィーン）、ナネッテ・シュトライヒャー 旧姓シュタイン（１８１６／ウィーン）、ヨハン・バプティスト・シュトライヒャー（１８４２／ウィーン）、ピエール・エラール（１８５７／パリ）、ユリウス・ブリュートナー（１８７４／ライプツィヒ）、カール・ベヒシュタイン（１８７８／ベルリン）、スタインウェイ＆サンズ（１８９９／ニューヨーク）等 〜 によるピアノリサイタル、オーケストラとの協演のほか、室内楽の分野でも多くの名手たち（ディミトリ・アシュケナージ、チェチーリア・バルトリ、エマニュエル・パユ、パトリック・デメンガ、藤田容子、ハルトムート・ローデ、イヴァン・モニゲッティ、マルゴ・カディアス、甲斐道雄、フランソワ・ベンダ、エミール・ロヴナー、スカラ座首席チェリストのアルフレード・ペルスィキッリ、ルーヴル宮音楽隊コンミスのアリス・ピエロ、カザルス弦楽四重奏団ほか）のパートナーを務めている。

また、これまでにアイナール・ステーン＝ノックレベルク、ユリアンナ・アヴデーエワ、ヴァディム・チャイモヴィッチなどのピアニストたちのリサイタルや室内楽での代演も行なっている。
１９７０年代後半から２０１９年にかけて演奏しつづけてきた余技の鍵盤ハーモニカでは、２００３年にスイスとロシア・ニジニノヴゴロド（旧ソ連ゴーリキー）の現代音楽週間において、リゲティのピアノ曲集『ムジカ・リチェルカータ』のメロディカ版を世界初演した。
片岡ハルコ、アンドレアス・シュタイアー、ユルク・ヴィッテンバッハ、川崎優の各氏に師事。ムスティスラフ・ロストロポーヴィチ、シャンドール・ゾルディ（ヴェーク弦楽四重奏団）諸氏との邂逅や哲学者ハンス・ザーナー氏の文化哲学講義からはとりわけ深い影響を受けている。
